Tips for buying electronic products

This is not a sponsored post, it's my personal experience. When it comes to buying electronics, we generally head to the popular electronic megastores. The umpteen newspaper ads announcing exchange deals, best prices, free gifts etc. tempt us for sure, but also leave us confused.

Now when I decide to purchase an electronic device, and an expensive one for that matter, I always believe in five things:

  1. Spend some time in checking online reviews by people who have bought the product (else you might fall prey to the 'paid' biased reviews).
  2. There's no harm in comparing prices by visiting several stores and malls.
  3. Know where the service centre is located.
  4. Try bargaining (did you know it works at some stores, the prices aren't always fixed... poochne mein kya jaata hai?)
  5. Get an extended warranty.
Except for a television that doubles up as a computer monitor, every other electronic item I purchased is from a particular store in Vashi. I once went to Kohinoor Electronics and found that the price of the product I wanted to buy was almost the same as the other stores. But two things impressed me a lot:
  1. The transparency they offer.
  2. The customer service.
They stock up the latest products in any series (refrigerators, water purifiers, washing machines, ovens, etc.) and give you great bargains (that is if you ask for). Ever since, I have been buying from them.  I also check the rates at other stores, but every single time I get a better deal out here!

So when you turn the pages of newspapers and check out the rates of a particular product, while the ones offered by Kohinoor are more or less the same, the bargains you get after you enter the store might surprise you. The discounts sometimes might not be huge but you will definitely end up buying the product at a lesser price than that compared to the leading electronic stores.

This holds true for other smaller stores in your locality as well, so I suggest check them out before making a purchase.

And there's one more important thing: If you shortlist and fix a particular store for all your future purchases, it always makes a difference. After all, the salespeople / floor managers recognise you and  realise that as a regular customer, you might spread a good word about their store. Hence, the delas and the after-sales support can be amazing!

So next time, when you step out to buy that LED TV, check out the local stores, you might get a better deal!
